Lapis Lazuli

Lapis lazuli, an ornamental gem is composed mostly of lazurite, sodalite & other sodium silicates. Sometimes accented by pyrite. It is a strong but lively blue, sometimes with a hint of violet.

Afghanistan is the home to some of the finest lapis lazuli on earth. Lapis is found in veins surrounded by steep mountains. The ancient Egyptians probably obtained there supplies from there.

To clean wipe with mild soap and water.

Lapis ranks 5.5 on the Mohs scale and is classified as brittle.
