There are seven factors-size, shape, color, luster, surface quality, nacre quality and matching.

Color strongly influences the value of Tahitian pearls.

Akoya cultured pearls size is a major factor. The most common size is 6 or 7mm.

There are seven pearl shapes-spherical, round, near-round, symmetrical, oval, button, drop and baroque.

Colored pearls come in many colors. Apricot, Aubergine, Golden, Lavender, Peacock and  Pistachio.

Luster is probably the most important factor.
